A salesperson or authorized agent who is authorized to make sales or do business on a company's representation, usually for a commission and/or salary.
Among the functions performed by a sales representative are:
Prospecting.
Follow up with potential customers.
Generate quotations.
Reach agreements with potential customers to close the largest number of sales.
The sales representative, besides being a fundamental element in any organization, helps to identify potential customers, as well as to contact and visit them. Maintains and develops relationships with existing customers, analyzes their needs and advises them about the products or services being offered.
